It’s More Than a Head Count
You’ve decided you want a candy buffet. Excellent choice.
Then comes the question we hear all the time: how much candy do you actually need?
Standard event-planning guidelines generally suggest about 115-225g of candy per guest. That gives you a starting point, but after building candy buffets for weddings, corporate events, holiday parties, birthdays and celebrations of all sizes, we can tell you there’s a little more to it than multiplying your guest count by 115 grams.
Especially because if you put a free candy buffet in front of children or adults, portion control has a funny way of going completely out the window.
Our candy buffets start with a minimum of 10 kg of candy, and from there we consider the number of guests, how the buffet fits into the event and how much candy makes sense per person.
What Else Affects How Much Candy You Need?
A candy buffet for 100 people at a wedding might look completely different from one for 100 people at a corporate holiday party.
Is the buffet available all evening? Is it being served alongside dessert? Are guests filling candy bags to take home? Is it part of a larger activation where hundreds of people may pass through?
All of those things change how guests interact with the buffet and how much candy we plan for.
The candy itself makes a difference too. You can tell us your colours, favourite flavours and any non-negotiables (we need gummy bears!), and we build the candy selection from there. Different candies vary in size, shape and weight, so we're considering both how much your guests need and how the finished buffet will look.
A Candy Buffet Has to Look Good Too
Having enough candy for your guest count is only half of it. A candy buffet is also part of your event decor.
The size of the table, the vessels, different heights and the overall scale of the setup all play a role in creating that full, abundant look. You can technically have enough candy for everyone and still have a buffet that looks a little sad.
Nobody wants the sad candy table.
That’s why we plan the candy quantity and the display together rather than treating them as separate.
What’s Included in a Sugar Cube Candy Buffet?
Our base Candy Buffet pricing includes setup, backdrop display, table linen and decor, candy, vases, scoops or tongs, and candy bags, so you're not piecing all of those elements together separately.
Pricing is based on the number of guests and the amount of candy allocated per guest, with options for premium or allergen-friendly candy, customizations, and late-night takedown, depending on your event needs.
We offer three Candy Buffet packages to give you a starting point and help you determine what makes sense for your particular event.
So, How Much Candy Should You Plan For?
For general planning purposes, 115g to 225g per guest is a useful starting range, but your guest count isn't the only number that matters.
How the buffet is being used, how long it's available, the type of event and the finished display all help determine where within that range your event should land.
You tell us how many people are coming, what you're planning and whether gummy bears are non-negotiable. We’ll take care of the candy math.
If a candy buffet is starting to sound like the right fit for your event, you can take a look at our three package options to get an idea of where your guest count fits, what’s included and the different ways we can make it yours. Check out our Candy Buffet Packages and Pricing for your next event!
